Is Turkey safe for dogs?

Safe for dogs

Yes — plain cooked turkey meat is a safe, lean, protein-rich treat. Skip the skin, bones and seasoning.

Plain cooked turkey is safe for dogs and is a common ingredient in commercial dog foods. Serve boneless, skinless white or dark meat that has been thoroughly cooked with no butter, oil, salt or seasoning. Avoid the fatty skin, which can upset the stomach and, in richer amounts, contribute to pancreatitis. Never give cooked turkey bones — they splinter easily and can cause choking or serious internal injury. Steer clear of processed deli turkey and anything cooked with onion or garlic (both toxic to dogs), such as gravy or stuffing. A few small pieces of plain meat make a great treat.
