Privacy Policy

What we collect

• Account info — your email address and an encrypted password (or Apple Sign-In identifier). We use these only to authenticate you.
• Pet records — everything you enter about your dog: name, breed, date of birth, vet visits, medications, vaccinations, observations, weight, photos, walks, care activities, memories, notes.
• Anonymous usage events — which features you tap, which screens you view. These are tied to a random ID, not to your email or identity. We use them to understand which features are useful so we can build more of them.
• Crash and performance diagnostics — when the app crashes, we record what happened so we can fix it. Personal information is stripped before the report is sent.

What we don't collect

• Your location.
• Your contacts, calendar, or microphone.
• Your browsing history or anything you do outside Hownd.
• Any data used to track you across apps or websites for advertising.
• Financial information — purchases go through Apple or Google; we never see your card details.

Where your data lives

Your records are stored in encrypted databases hosted by Supabase (which uses AWS infrastructure). Photos are stored in Supabase private storage buckets. We use HTTPS for all data in transit and at-rest encryption is enabled.

Third-party services we use

• Supabase — database and storage for your records. Their privacy policy.
• RevenueCat — handles in-app purchases for Pro subscriptions. Their privacy policy.
• PostHog — anonymous product analytics. We send an anonymous random ID, never your email. Their privacy policy.
• Sentry — crash diagnostics. Personal information is stripped before reports are sent. Their privacy policy.
• Anthropic — generates the optional AI Health Brief from your dog's records, only when you tap "Generate". Anthropic does not use the inputs to train its models. Their privacy policy.
• openFDA — public-domain pet food recall data we poll daily. No personal information is sent.

The AI Health Brief, specifically

When you tap "Generate Brief" in Hownd Pro, we send a summary of your dog's records (vet visits, medications, vaccinations, recent observations, weight history) to Anthropic's Claude model and return the generated PDF to you. We do not send your name, your email, your photos, or any unrelated user data. The generated brief is cached for 24 hours so we don't re-generate the same brief repeatedly. Anthropic has contractually agreed not to use this data to train its models.

Your rights

• Access — every record you've ever entered is visible to you in the app at any time.
• Export — generate an AI Health Brief or share individual records as PDF via the in-app share menu.
• Edit — every record except immutable fields (breed, sex, date of birth, which never change in real life) can be edited.
• Delete — open Settings → Delete Account to permanently delete your account and all associated records. This action is irreversible. If you have trouble with this flow, email support@hownd.ca and we'll delete it for you within 7 days.

Children

Hownd is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email support@hownd.ca and we'll delete it.

If something changes

If we materially change what data we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also notify you in the app.
