Meet the Siberian Husky
Bred to pull sleds across vast distances, the Siberian Husky is athletic, independent, and famously good-natured. They are striking and sociable, but their energy, vocal nature, and talent for escaping make them a commitment.
Temperament & personality
Huskies are friendly and outgoing — poor guard dogs, great companions. They are also independent and easily bored, which can mean digging, howling, and Houdini-like escapes. They thrive with active owners and plenty of company.
Exercise & grooming
They need a great deal of vigorous exercise and a securely fenced yard (they jump and dig). The thick double coat “blows” seasonally — expect heavy shedding and frequent brushing. They can be hard to recall off-lead.
Health to watch
Generally healthy. Watch for certain eye conditions (such as cataracts) and hip issues. Their high prey drive and wanderlust make secure containment a safety priority.
Breed is a guide, not a guarantee — every dog is an individual. For anything specific to your dog, your vet is the best source.
