Safety guide
Is Honey safe for dogs?
Yes — small amounts of honey are safe for healthy adult dogs. It is very high in sugar, so keep it tiny.
A small amount of honey is safe for healthy adult dogs as an occasional treat. It's very high in natural sugars, though, so portions should be tiny — too much can cause weight gain, upset stomach and dental problems, and it's not suitable for overweight or diabetic dogs. Raw honey can contain trace botulism spores, so it shouldn't be given to puppies, or to dogs that are elderly, diabetic or immunocompromised, whose systems are less able to cope. Think of honey as an occasional lick, not a regular supplement.
