Safety guide

Is Dates safe for dogs?

Safe for dogs

Yes — pitted dates are safe for dogs in small amounts.

Dates are not toxic to dogs and can be given as an occasional treat. They are very high in natural sugar, though, so keep portions tiny to avoid stomach upset and weight gain. Always remove the pit first, as it is a choking and obstruction hazard, and feed only plain dates with nothing added.
