Safety guide

Is Cheese safe for dogs?

Use with caution

Small amounts of plain cheese are fine, but high fat content can trigger pancreatitis.

Hard cheeses in small quantities are generally well tolerated and make excellent training treats. However, cheese is high in fat, which can trigger pancreatitis. Avoid blue cheese, onion, or garlic varieties.

When to call your vet

Your dog ate a large quantity of cheese, especially with a history of pancreatitis.
