Safety guide

Is Cantaloupe safe for dogs?

Safe for dogs

Yes — cantaloupe flesh is safe for dogs in moderation.

Cantaloupe (melon) flesh is hydrating and packed with vitamins A and C, fibre and water, making it a refreshing treat. Remove the rind and all seeds and offer only the flesh in bite-sized pieces — the rind is tough to digest and can cause an obstruction, while the seeds are a choking hazard. It is high in natural sugar, so serve sparingly, particularly for overweight or diabetic dogs.

Symptoms to watch for

  • Mild stomach upset
  • Loose stools
