Meet the Korean Jindo

A national treasure of South Korea originating on Jindo Island, the Korean Jindo is a spitz-type hunting dog celebrated for legendary loyalty and an almost uncanny sense of direction. Dignified, brave, and deeply devoted, the Jindo bonds for life.

Temperament & personality

Jindos are intensely loyal — often to one person — and reserved or aloof with strangers. They are highly intelligent, independent thinkers with a strong prey drive, and can be selective with other dogs. They need early socialisation and a confident, consistent owner.

Exercise & grooming

An active, athletic breed that needs daily exercise and mental work. Jindos are master escape artists who climb and jump, so secure, tall fencing is a must. The double coat sheds heavily twice a year; they are otherwise clean and low-odour.

Health to watch

A robust, long-lived breed with relatively few inherited problems; hypothyroidism is occasionally reported. Their biggest needs are mental engagement and secure containment rather than medical care.

Breed is a guide, not a guarantee — every dog is an individual. For anything specific to your dog, your vet is the best source.
