Meet the Yorkshire Terrier

The Yorkshire Terrier packs true terrier spirit into a tiny, silky-coated package. Originally bred to catch rats in Yorkshire mills, the “Yorkie” is now a beloved companion — bold, affectionate, and brimming with confidence.

Temperament & personality

Yorkies are spirited, devoted, and brave to the point of fearlessness. They bond closely with their owners and can be wary of strangers and bigger dogs. They’re clever but can be stubborn to house-train.

Exercise & grooming

They need modest exercise but plenty of attention. The fine, hair-like coat barely sheds but needs regular grooming. Given their size, supervise them around larger dogs and use a harness, not a collar.

Health to watch

Watch for dental disease, luxating patella, collapsing trachea, and low blood sugar in puppies. Their delicate frame needs careful handling.
