Meet the Chihuahua
The Chihuahua is the smallest dog breed and one of the most characterful. Originating in Mexico, this tiny dog forms intense bonds with its owner and carries a confidence that far outsizes its frame.
Temperament & personality
Chihuahuas are bold, alert, and devoted — often choosing one favourite person. They can be wary of strangers and other dogs, and their size makes them better suited to gentle, older children. Early socialisation softens the sass.
Exercise & grooming
A little exercise and indoor play go a long way. Smooth or long coats are low-maintenance. They feel the cold and need a coat in winter, plus a harness rather than a collar.
Health to watch
Watch for dental disease, luxating patella, collapsing trachea, and low blood sugar. Their delicate size means careful handling to avoid injury.
Breed is a guide, not a guarantee — every dog is an individual. For anything specific to your dog, your vet is the best source.
