Meet the Pug
With their wrinkled faces and curled tails, Pugs are among the most recognisable and charming companion dogs. Bred as lap dogs for Chinese royalty, they are sociable, even-tempered, and famously devoted to their people.
Temperament & personality
Pugs are loving, playful, and a little mischievous — happiest in your company and great with children and other pets. They are sensitive souls who don’t cope well left alone.
Exercise & grooming
They need only modest exercise and must be kept cool, as their flat faces make them prone to overheating. The short coat sheds more than you’d expect, and their facial wrinkles need cleaning.
Health to watch
A brachycephalic breed prone to breathing difficulties, eye problems, and weight gain — keeping a Pug lean and cool is one of the kindest things you can do for them.
Breed is a guide, not a guarantee — every dog is an individual. For anything specific to your dog, your vet is the best source.
