Meet the Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Famously the breed of the British royal family, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a herding dog in a compact body. Smart, alert, and affectionate, Corgis are surprisingly athletic and pack plenty of personality into their low-slung frame.

Temperament & personality

Corgis are clever, confident, and bond strongly with their family. Their herding heritage shows in alertness, a tendency to bark, and sometimes nipping at heels — all manageable with training and socialisation.

Exercise & grooming

They need daily exercise and mental work despite their size. The double coat sheds a lot and needs regular brushing. Like other long-backed breeds, they benefit from staying lean and avoiding too much jumping.

Health to watch

Watch for back problems (IVDD), hip dysplasia, and a tendency to gain weight. Keeping a Corgi trim protects both their joints and their spine.
