Meet the Border Collie

The Border Collie is the world’s premier herding dog and is often called the most intelligent breed of all. That brilliance comes with a catch: they need serious physical and mental work, and they are happiest with a purpose.

Temperament & personality

Intensely focused and eager to work, Border Collies bond closely with their owners and learn at remarkable speed. Without enough stimulation they can become anxious or obsessive, and they may try to herd children or pets.

Exercise & grooming

This breed needs far more than a walk — think running, training, agility, or herding, plus daily mental challenges. The medium double coat needs regular brushing. They suit active, engaged owners, not quiet households.

Health to watch

Generally healthy and long-lived. Watch for hip dysplasia, certain eye conditions, and epilepsy in some lines. Mental wellbeing matters as much as physical health for this busy mind.
